Christmas at Winchester for the bereaved

We appreciate that Christmas time can be very difficult for someone in mourning. Our funeral home is dedicated to helping clients through the grieving process and here to support families during their bereavement. This year the team at LINK organised a trip to Winchester Cathedral and Christmas market for a group of bereaved people.

The family business has set up The Link Bereavement Care Group which has provided a bereavement course for more than 100 people who have lost loved ones.

The group was set up in partnership with the charity Cruse Bereavement Care and the programme is free of charge.

The courses were originally set up to support clients of A.B. Walker & Son. They proved so successful that the service was opened up to the wider community. Anyone in Berkshire who has been bereaved in the past year, and feels they can benefit from The Link Bereavement Care group, can apply to go on the six week course by contacting Melissa Walker: melissa@abwalker.co.uk

Memory trees are back

We appreciate that Christmas time can be very difficult for someone in mourning. Our funeral home is dedicated to helping clients through the grieving process and here to support families during their bereavement. If you want to pop in for a chat or have a cuppa, come by and leave a message for a loved one on one of the memory trees. We would love to be there for you.

You can leave a message on any the six memory trees found at any of our branch locations. We wish you and your family the best during this holiday season.

Walkers take on Santa Run 2015

Santa Run 2015

Reading’s Santa Run was held on Sunday 6th December this year. The 5K run saw many runners suited in red dashing about town. Some of the Santas this year were recognised as part of the Walker family (pictured right) as Matthew and his family versus Julian and his family raced to the finish line.

Everyone here at A.B. Walker & Son wished them best of luck. As it looks like it was a fun day for All!

Pop in to the Thatcham, Reading or Henley office for your poppy.

Memories in Music

In Remembrance week, Berkshire’s Occasion Singers and Reading A440 choir are delighted to be able to bring 'Music in Memories' to the Reading Minster.

The concert will be a great way to bring Reading people together to bring back memories through songs.

The Singers believe it is not the actual song that makes one emotional, but the people, the places, and the moments that come to mind when the song is heard.

Occasions Singers sang at the beautiful Reading Minster at AB Walker's popular Memorial Service earlier this year and we saw for ourselves how music has a big role at the Minster and how it can bring back many happy memories. So we are hoping to use this concert to raise funds to restore the unique and important pipe organ built by Henry Willis in 1862. In so doing, we hope that it can once again provide Reading Minster with a magnificent instrument of cathedral proportions which can be used by future generations and continue to bring back beautiful memories.

Tickets for the concert at Reading Minster at 6.30pm, Saturday 14th November, are £10.00 and are available from the Minster or by calling 07815-529156

Many attended our Bracknell and Thatcham offices at A. B. Walker to show support for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on 25th September. After hosting a very successful tea & cake morning with a fun filled raffle, donations reached over £360 for Macmillan Cancer research.

Bracknell office thanks everyone in the community for their support and wishes to thank all of those who donated the lovely cakes and prizes. Our Thatcham office was still partying away as the morning progressed into the afternoon with more donations ‘pouring’ in.

PIMM'S fun at the fete

PIMM'S Tent 2015

Another successful year had under the PIMM’S tent at this year’s Caversham fete. A.B. Walker staff members served up the freshest of the fresh selling over £2100 of the traditional British summer time drink at Caversham Court Gardens; making this year even more ‘fruitful’ than the last. All proceeds were in aid of the Caversham churches.

It was a beautiful day with plenty of fun in the sun, the perfect ‘mix’ for a PIMM’S along the river. If you missed us this year, don’t fret we will be there again next year. Look for us under the big red tent down by the river!

Half Marathon results are in

Ollie Wins

The Reading Half Marathon Walker family championship of champions was won by (no surprises) Oliver Walker (6th Generation) in a good time of 1.40.  Matthew (5th generation), his father crossed the line not long after 1.47, followed by Uncle Julian at 1.54 who was citing a cold and complete lack of training for his time!

They enjoyed a Sunday lunch together before realising that it would have been a good idea to do some post-race stretches…

Until next year…
