We were honoured to sponsor the Volunteer of the Year Award at the Pride of Reading Awards 2019.
The awards celebrate exceptional courage, standards and success from individuals and businesses across Reading.
The Volunteer of the Year Award went to the late Alice Driver.
Sadly, Alice Driver has passed away but her story of volunteering for Reading Refugee Support Group is an inspiration.
Alice, 28, died from a brain tumour. For nine years since she was diagnosed with the terminal tumour she battled with the debilitating effects of epilepsy, radiotherapy and ongoing chemotherapy.
Alice joined Reading Refugee Support Group as a volunteer. She was also a supporter of Reading PRIDE and the MyUmbrella group for the LGBT+ community.
She devoted her time to others. Her parents received a standing ovation as they collected the award on her behalf.
Julian and Matthew Walker felt privileged to be there and to be able to support the awards.
