Funeral arrangements
Yes, you can start arranging the funeral before registering the death. However, the death must be registered before the funeral can occur.
For a burial you can place what you wish in the coffin, we recommend you are thoughtful to the environment. With a cremation there are restrictions, no glass, metal, leather or rubber.
No, each coffin is for the individual. We do not recycle or reuse a coffin.
Cremations
You have the choice on whether the curtains remain open or are closed. Please let the officiant taking the service know.
No, the coffin remains in place until after the service and the congregation have all left the Chapel.
In most instances, the cremation will happen on the same day as the funeral. To reduce the impact on the environment some cremations may take place within 24 hours (excluding weekends).
Day of the funeral
We will advise you the night before what time to be ready for if we are leaving from residence with you.
The route will be confirmed with you the day before the funeral. If you have a preferred route, then let us know when you are making the funeral arrangements.
Yes, just let us know and we will make sure that you are ready before the hearse leaves.
Attending a funeral
Traditionally black is worn and this is still a common choice. Increasingly though, there are requests for a particular colour to be worn or they may request that black is not worn.
You should arrive in good time to get parked and assembled at the venue. We would suggest 10-15 minutes ahead of the service time.
The timings of a service will vary, in a Crematorium usually 30 – 45 mins, each Crematorium time varies or if the service is in Church up to an hour.
Bereavement support
Loss affects everyone differently so we offer different levels of bereavement support. From access to GriefChat, a live online bereavement support service, to guides and resources, to our Link group bereavement course, all are designed to help make this difficult time a little easier to deal with.
This is always a personal choice, and you should never feel that you need to do this. Some people will look at visiting the chapel of rest as an opportunity for a personal and private goodbye, others may prefer to have their lasting memories to be of the person when they were alive.
Funerals offer a structured and communal space to acknowledge the death, express emotions and begin the process of healing. The importance of being able to share the loss with others, as you unite, is something that will also help with your grief.
