Memorial stones (New)
Our memorial stone packages could be fitted by our BRAMM-accredited masons in 10-12 weeks at a churchyard or cemetery in Berkshire or South Oxfordshire.
The process for creating a bespoke memorial can take up to 24 weeks.
Church Diocese regulations were updated in 2016 but not applied retrospectively. You might see memorials with materials or styles that were allowed prior to 2016 but they are not allowed on any new memorials.
With new memorials, we will provide you with a full estimate of all the memorial costs. Once you have approved this we require a 50% deposit in order to proceed with the order. You will be invoiced for the balance once the memorial has been completed and fitted.
This is the fee that is charged by and paid directly to the cemetery or church so they can give AB Walker permission for our masonry team to carry out any work.
We always need to request permission from the regulatory body before your order can be processed.
Cemeteries require the living registered owner(s) to complete and sign the application. If you are unsure of ownership or believe the person who has died to be the current owner(s), you will need to contact the cemetery directly as a transfer of exclusive rights or ownership may be required in order for permission to be granted.
Memorial stones – especially headstones and kerb sets – need a ground settlement period before they can be installed. For headstones this is around 6-9 months, and kerb sets can take 12 months or more. Both timeframes can be dependent on time of year and weather conditions.
For health and safety, regulations were issued in 2005 that require headstones to be fixed with an anchor system approved by the National Association of Monumental Masons. This system is designed to allow headstones to move, but to prevent them from toppling over.
