John Malcolm Akers

John Malcolm Akers

Passed away on 09 May 2020, aged 92 years.

We are sad to announce that Mac passed away on Saturday 9th May 2020. He leaves his wife Sally, six children Beth, Andrew, Cathy, Jane, James and Molly, six grandchildren Rachel, John, Hannah, Matt, Joe and baby Esme and two great grandchildren Grey and baby Albie. Mac was much loved and respected. He touched the lives of so many people through his careers in education, leadership, publishing and wholesale as well as through his talented performances with the Reading Phoenix Choir.  We thank you for all the love and kindness we’ve been shown at this time and throughout Mac’s illness over the past five years. Instead of flowers, we would like to invite you to support The Alzheimer’s Society in his memory, which helps research into the disease and supports those affected by it.

Ever since we met Mac, Daphne and Jane in Talland Bay when our daughter Paula and Jane were both 12 years old (synchronised swimming in the hotel pool) we became firm friends. Mac was a very special man with a wonderful sense of fun and we send our condolences to Mac's whole family.

Dear Sally Ann, James & Molly, Mac was very cruelly taken away from you because of alzheimers. You coped amazingly well as the person you knew & loved faded away. Hopefully one day a cure will be found for this frightening illness. Mac was a really special man. Love to you all xxx
