Andrew was a colleague and friend. Andrew had the deepest of curiosity, constantly learning, whether of technical, linguistic, musical or artistic interests, with an ability to comprehend, question and, importantly, enjoy. Andrew was kind and full of humour. He claimed he had cracked how to defeat an Aikido practitioner, by moving very, very...very...slowly towards them, so they cannot use his energy against him. I will miss him.

I feel very fortunate to have worked with Andrew for the past 20 years as part of the FpML community. Right from the start he brought his expertise, calm reasoning and above all sense of humour and fun to our forums. When we started out Andrew was working at IBM and his technical experience with XML was invaluable and his expertise and voice of authority in public forums added a much needed sense of maturity to the fledgling standard. I remember well one of the first large FpML public meetings that Andrew kindly arranged to host in one of IBM's auditoriums on the London South Bank. Travel and budgets seemed easier back then and physical meetings were more the norm so we did a lot more of the FpML work in-person and often tried to combine an afternoon or day's workshop with some drinks or dinner afterwards. Friendships established then have endured to this day. Andrew was always very generous with his time and a great constant for us all over the past 20 years. I'll miss him greatly.

I have worked with only a handful of people who I think of as having been a bit brilliant. Andrew was one of them. He was a boss and mentor who ultimately became a friend. He was rare in this industry in his ability to span both business and technology with alacrity and grace. On several occasions I saw him effortlessly outwit and outmanoeuvre tricky customers with one of his "pontifications" or a need to "let things percolate". His generosity and patience were profound. His legacy is immense. We had been hoping to have lunch in the run up to Christmas 2020 but it wasn't to be; he insisted (as he often would, playfully) that it was my turn to pay. I'm not convinced that it was my turn but, either way Andrew, I owe you one.
