Memorial Stones

From choosing a new memorial to maintaining and looking after an existing memorial stone, we can help you create and care for a memorial to honour the memory of the person who has died.

Symbol of remembrance

A memorial provides a permanent symbol of remembrance of the person it’s dedicated to and becomes a focus for loved ones to visit. The majority of memorials are made from natural stones, like sandstone, slate, marble and granite. These are able to withstand the elements for many years, and whilst they’re strong and durable, they’re also able to be shaped and personalised to your wishes.

As memorial specialists, at AB Walker we pride ourselves on our knowledge and experience. We can guide you through the decision-making process, and advise you on your chosen cemetery or churchyard’s regulations. We work with accredited masons (masons registered with the British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons – BRAMM) to ensure the finished product is of the highest standard.

Creating a new memorial

There are many options when choosing and creating a new memorial. From the type of memorial, the stone used and the headstone shape to the lettering style and even imagery, there are plenty of possibilities to personalise your choices further. We’ll take you through the options, as well as the cemetery or churchyard restrictions that need to be complied with.

It’s important to be aware of the timescales for creating your memorial. The process for creating a bespoke memorial can take up to 24 weeks.

Our guide on purchasing a new memorial will help you create the personal memorial you want for your loved one.

Memorial stone packages

If you’re comfortable with a simpler headstone or tablet, or if you are working to a special date, our memorial stone packages could be the right choice for you. With separate packages for churchyards and cemeteries, you have the reassurance of knowing that the relevant regulations will be met.

These memorial stones are held in stock so could be fitted by our BRAMM-accredited masons in 10-12 weeks at a churchyard or cemetery in Berkshire or South Oxfordshire.

Our guide to memorial stone packages can help you decide if this is the option you’d like to take.

Existing memorials

If you have an existing memorial for a loved one at a churchyard or cemetery, there can still be times when further work is needed on the memorial. Working with accredited masons, AB Walker can inspect the memorial stone, add an inscription, temporarily remove the headstone or ashes tablet, and undertake any remedial work.

Grave tending services

Many people want the graves of their loved ones to be regularly cared for, but due to distance or time constraints, they aren’t able to keep the grave in the condition they would like. We are able to provide this grave tending service in our local area. With a choice of visit frequency, we are happy to share before and after photographs so you know your loved one’s grave is being looked after.

This regular upkeep also ensures that each memorial is frequently inspected so that any necessary remedial work is identified and reported quickly, before lasting damage can happen.
