Loss and Bereavement Support

Bereavement support is important when dealing with loss. AB Walker recognises this. Our support extends beyond the funeral to help those experiencing grief after the loss of a loved one.

Grief is a natural reaction

Grief is a natural reaction to loss and affects everyone differently. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Feelings may include anger, anxiety, helplessness, relief, sadness and guilt. There is no set timetable for starting to adjust to a loss. For some, it can take weeks or months. For others longer. Try to be patient with yourself. Losing a loved one can be one of life’s most difficult experiences.

Our aftercare support has been designed to provide you with support to help you overcome the challenges and uncertainty that often arise during this difficult time. Whilst we can’t promise to make things better, we do try to make them easier to deal with.

Self-care whilst grieving

Your own wellbeing and looking after yourself whilst you are grieving is important to help you adjust to life without a loved one. Be kind to your body and mind. This includes:

  • Spending time with others
  • Eating healthily
  • Staying active
  • Listening to your body
  • Sleeping well
  • Lowering your expectations of yourself
  • Doing familiar things
  • Pampering yourself
  • Keeping a journal

It also includes continuing bonds – learning to have a new relationship with the person you have lost. This might be by talking to or writing letters to them, imagining the advice they would give you or talking about them to others.
