The Link Bereavement Course

The Link Bereavement course is free and available for anyone locally that needs bereavement support. Experiencing loss along with others going through similar experiences can help normalise your feelings.

What is The Link bereavement course?

Our Link Bereavement Course is free for anyone locally who has experienced loss. The course consists of five weekly group sessions to help you explore feelings and share experiences.

Sessions are held at our Reading head office on a weekday evening and are led by trained AB Walker facilitators. They combine learning with group interaction and the group usually consists of 10 -15 people.

Parking is available, and refreshments are provided.

Courses run throughout the year. We ask that you commit to all five weeks so that you gain the full benefit of the course.

Bereavement course outline

Whilst our Bereavement Course is designed to follow this basic structure, each one is adapted to meet the needs of the group.

  • Week 1 – Working as a group
  • Week 2 – Looking at what grief is and common feelings
  • Week 3 – Further exploration of feelings
  • Week 4 – The rollercoaster of emotions
  • Week 5 – Practical challenges, group endings and new beginnings

Course invitation

For those who arranged a funeral through AB Walker, around three months after the funeral, we will write to you to tell you about the programme. The invitation to attend our bereavement course is open to all members of your family and close friends.

You don’t need to have used AB Walker’s services to attend our bereavement course. It is open to all locally. Simply complete our course application form.

Although there are many benefits to sharing your experience of loss, we understand that it may only suit some. If you or a family member would benefit from professional one-to-one support, we can help direct you to the appropriate support.

After the course – Link Up social group

At the end of the five-week bereavement course, we will share information about how you can stay in touch with others and continue to gain the support you need while you adjust to your new normal.

This includes the Link Up social group, where many of those who have attended The Link Course maintain contact and meet locally for a coffee or a meal.
